The Power of Tears
Why do I need a good cry? Because there is power in tears. Scriptures describe a 25-year-old king who did that which was right in the sight of God, yet he was sick on his deathbed. During this time, Hezekiah was described as a faithful king and that the Lord was with him. The prophet from Isaiah spoke to Hezekiah, who was 39 years old was told to get his house in order because he would not recover from his illness. Hezekiah turned his back to the wall and cried bitterly to God.
Tears are the first line of communication. When you came into this world, the first thing you experienced when you were spanked was crying. There is the biology of tears, which is the science behind tears. There are the basal tears, reflective tears, and emotional tears.
Basal tears: continuous tears that lubricate the eyes and provide nourishment.
Reflective Tears: produced due to external irritants such as onions, smoke, dust, etc.
Emotional Tears: a form of expression triggered by strong feelings. Biological tears not only regulate the body, but they also emulate chemicals for the body.
Not only does God see value in our tears. Jesus also shares in our tears. John 11:35 demonstrates that Jesus decided to be present in our weakness. Jesus sees and shares our emotions. Hezekiah was not afraid to raw to emotions. When was the last time you prayed so earnestly that tears came to your face?
